Loving Letters

What a difference a couple of months can make!  Alexa, the girl who wanted nothing to do with letters nor numbers, is now extremely interested in the topics.  She even allows me to pack the alphabet Cheez-Its for her afternoon snack without protest!

Her transformation was evident when I picked her up from school on earlier this week, as she could not wait to tell me about the new lesson she learned - - the movable alphabet.  She was so excited to tell me about her experience using the letters to build words, an activity she had always associated with the "big kids" at school.  Her pride was obvious and did not go unnoticed, as her teacher even e-mailed me a photo of Alexa working on the lesson (which was much appreciated, because I wasn't exactly sure of the lesson Alexa described to me).  She has definitely come a long way from her propensity to select only "unchallenging" lessons, usually ones involving tissue paper and glue.

The most obvious sign of her transformation is evident in her career aspirations.  From wanting to "do nothing" (the worst thing her Type-A mother could ever hear!) to being a pop star, Alexa informed me tonight that she now aspires to be a teacher when she grows up.  There is hope for Stanford or Purdue after all!
