Surgery #2

Grant underwent surgery #2 today to install a port in his chest - this creates a direct tunnel for the chemo meds to the blood vessels and will avoid the harshness of the meds on his veins.  He apparently was so excited for the surgery today (knowing that it will end a lot of the poking) that he decided to wake up every 1-2 hours last night, ready to party and play each time.  The surgery went well - they did have to change the type of port to an external model because the little guy is just too small for the MRI-compatible ones.

Normally Grant is pretty cranky and irritable when he is coming out of anesthesia,.  Not today - - he was happy, smiling and playing with Nurse Lindsay immediately.  Grant's sunny disposition is pretty amazing......

Assuming all goes well with the remaining tests, we could begin chemotherapy as early as tomorrow.  Based upon our discussion with the Director of Oncology, it sounds like we should be home sometime between the early to middle part of next week.  Fingers are crossed!

Having fun in the bouncy seat before surgery.

Resting comfortably after surgery.
