Working for Treasures

Now that Alexa is attaining a better grasp of numbers, I decided it was the perfect time to begin the implementation of a chores-for-allowance system.  When I mentioned the concept to her, Alexa's enthusiasm was obvious, so Damon and I decided to roll with it.  Thankfully, Alexa has not fully grasped the concept of currency, so she prefers coins ("treasures" as she calls them) to dollar bills....I think Damon and I could work this to our advantage for awhile.

This first weekend of our chores system has been a success - - the playroom is spotless and organized and Alstott has been very well-fed...I figured the latter would not be an issue.  Alexa is thrilled that her coin purse is getting full, as her haul for the weekend has been 10 quarters (8 to clean the playroom and 1 per day for feeding Alstott 2x per day).  I have a feeling she'll be making a detour to the dollar bins on our next shopping trip at Target.

Learning the value of a dollar at the mock
grocery store at the Children's Museum.
Shopping will now be more fun with a full coin purse in tow.
